Mistake 1: Welding Over Paint, Rust, or Galvanizing Without Proper Prep

A beautiful bead on a dirty or painted surface is a cold weld waiting to crack. Prep work on gate repairs is where most DIY and low-bid shop repairs fall apart without either party knowing it.
